Attendance Information
To Report Your Child's Absence
If your child is going to absent from school, please let the school know.
- You may use the Student Absent Google Form (open external link).
- You may call the school at 718-849-0962
There was an error with the form that only allowed a parent to submit one absence. That error has been fixed. Thank you.
P.S. 54Q - Attendance CEP Goal
By June 2025, the Chronic Absenteeism Rate for All Students will decrease by 6%, from 31% to 25%. The measurement tool will be Insight Data Dashboard.

- Schools must take attendance to show whether a student is in school or not; it’s the law.
- Schools mark a student as P for present or A for absent.
- While schools can mark an absence as “excused” for religious reasons, illness, or some other reasons, the excused absence is still an absence and must be part of the student’s record.
- Schools must tell families when students are absent or late. They will make a positive call or outreach home. Does your school have the right information to contact you? Update your child’s NYCSA account with your current contact information.
Tips for Parents
- Please schedule non-urgent medical appointments outside of regular school hours.
- If making an appointment during the school day is unavoidable, we encourage children to come to school in the morning and get picked up early or if they have an early appointment, they can come to school after their appointment.
- Please bring in a doctor’s note.
- Avoid extended trips while school is in session.
- If you must travel during the school year, please notify your child’s teacher and provide Ms. Murphy in the office with the flight information, especially the return date.
- Set routines with your child around doing homework, eating, bedtime and waking up in the morning.
- Stay up to date with your child’s immunizations.
